The “Geography of Food and Agriculture + Food Ethics” program to Tuscany and Umbria, Italy, ia six credit field school offered at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD level by Texas State University’s Education Abroad Office, was mostly recently conducted in June 2024. The program is hands-on and experiential, with each week featuring multiple tours, tastings, excursions, and workshops.
Versions of the course have been offered in 2016 and 2018, covering topics such as cultural and political ecology, the geography of food and agriculture, and rural sustainability. The 2020 course, unfortunately, was canceled due to COVID-19. Similarly, the 2022 program faced too many uncertainties to be held. However, we were able to run the course in 2023 and 2024, with a focus on the Geography of Food and Agriculture and Food Ethics.
